Practice on Sunday June 17, (2 days before game vs Vegas)
Bird and Whitcomb there EARLY getting a lot of shots up
Starting with meeting on court where they went over team offensive and defensive ratings from there last game then showed about 9 clips of pick and roll Defense
Coach then talked about their mindset in terms of rising to meet the challenge of Connecticut(top team) but that he sees them lose concentration at times when they aren't up for a top opponent. Need to understand they have a bit of a target on their back now.
Then Split and warmed up, asst coaches put in Vegas sets with male practice players.
Talked about cleaning up pick and roll d as well as post d
Pick and roll d (ice everything, Trap all step ups(outer thirds) Switch horns by pushing to the 4, three way switch the roll, 5 in PG out) (Talked a lot about Packing in on post play and traps)
Post D= Stay connected on cross screens, push them WAAAAY out, front if they have a deep catch, two feet in the paint)
Did space and kick work
Ran weak, weak pin, other general NBA PRO quick hitters
Went up and down vs male practice players.

What being ENGAGED on defense looks like
Coaches I don't know that it matters what defense we play, whatever we do it only going to be effective if our team isn't finding ways to take time off during a possession. This is what it means to be ENGAGED defensively. Below are film to help emphasize this point. in the team clips see if you can find anyone who tries to rest either mentally or physically during the possesion.
