Two Husky Practices wed 12th fri 14th of OCT

Defensive emphasis first (Pack line)

three chairs on either sideline
  coaches play catch on the sideline
 emphasis is sprinting to a closeout and pressuring the ball, sprinting to help side
  Pressure the ball=Make the ball handler uncomfortable


Emphasized Contesting a lot=  kids have to understand that is a technique

"Make them miss!"  You have to make them miss.

Punishment= on the bike for 30 seconds

The Coffee Shop

I went into a coffee shop this morning before going to UPS mens first practice of the year.  I was wearing my Duke sweatshirt and the girl behind the counter said, "So........ what's Duke"  I replied "Its a school in North Carolina" "Is that where your from?" she replied. "No, they kind of have a national following."
A great lesson on perspective.

10/13 Thursday Pioneers and Swish 8th

flat screen phase and 22

(kids got winded quick)

Worked on Vegas look (overload back screen)
    If Taylor got separation lob to her was easy
    If Taylor read the defense going under she could step back and pushed the screener down on diagonal roll
   If defense helped way of screener, they pop and look to reverse the ball to the flare cutter popping out opposite wing, if there was a switch they dive and post. if their wasn't a switch the run pick and roll on the side.  In both circumstance run double screen away for corner player on weak side.

When defense really started to sprint under, we introduced Vegas special, flare cutter ran off screen to the rim, screener chased them off back pick right into down screen re screen.

After talking to Coach Butler(Yak Valley CC) I wanted to experiment with rotation instead of help and recover.

Went 3 on 3 with point, wing, and ball side post.
1) Forced Point Guard to dribble hard sideline
2) Wing released and ran at dribbler
3) Ball side post ran at wing lane
4) PG releases ball and runs to guard player furthest from the ball

Kids liked it, it worked really well.

 played live off the edge line at half court, either turn corner or read defense is in front of you and wrap at full speed to counter and finish in paint
